Reiki Is

Reiki is as simple as touch and  intention, and as complex as life purpose and quantum physics, all of which are comprised in the practice we call Reiki.

usuiReiki was developed
in the early 1900's in Japan as a spiritual and healing practice by lay Tendai Buddhist monk and martial arts practitioner Mikao Usui. Usui had numerous students over the years, many of whom went on to teach others, and Reiki was brought to America by Hawayo Takata in 1937. Reiki is now a global hand-healing arts practice, and many practitioners still practice the Qi Gong-type spiritual and energetic self-practice taught by Usui. Although Reiki is based on esoteric Buddhist spiritual and energetic practices, Usui developed Reiki for the people, and  stressed the importance of simplicity and accessibility in its practice.

Rei: Spiritual or sacred.
Ki: Energy. The basic units, the intelligent particles and waves, that  constitute and organize our universe, including our bodies, minds, and souls. Ki is Japanese for the same energy that physicists describe as the unified field, the chi in  Tai Chi or acupuncture, the qi in Qi Gong,  the prana in yoga, and what some in the West call Spirit.

waterflowSimilar to acupuncture, yoga, and Tai Chi, Reiki practice and hand healing raises the receiver/Self's vibrational level, and  helps the receiver/Self clear stagnant energy channels and recieve fresh energy as is needed and directed by the Self. This happens apart from the Self's consciously thinking mind; the receiver is open but not trying to control anything and no belief system is needed. In fact, the receiver  goes into deep relaxation and  often falls asleep. As the practitioner is there to facilitate and  the healing is  performed by the receiver's root Self, all Reiki experiences are unique. Benefits many have experienced, and you may too, include faster healing from illness and surgery, increased immunity, reduced stress or depression, freedom from anxiety, peace during a difficult period such sickness, divorce, or grieving , better sleep, clarity of thought,  deep relaxation, feelings of universal connection and love, and  blissfulness.

Reiki is used in hospitals and hospices as an adjunct to care for cancer,  chemotherapy, other illnesses, and the the dying. It is also offered in specialized Reiki, wellness, or  spa-type clinics worldwide.
